The Mogao Grottoes, located near the city of Dunhuang, China, consist of almost 500 grottoes that contain the largest repository of ancient Buddhist wall paintings and sculpture in China. Managing visitor experience at such ancient and delicate sites is complicated by the dynamic environmental conditions. KCG created a model to help preserve this national treasure for future generations, by creating a tool that took into account the different environmental and human strains. Using this model, this UNESCO heritage site was able to control people flow and thus improve visitor satisfaction while keeping the grottos intact.
